Shauna Paynter B.Sc, PDPP, M.A, RCC.

Shauna Paynter is the owner, principal practitioner, and clinical supervisor at Safe & Sound Therapeutics Inc. Her extensive professional journey spans over a decade of therapeutic work and more than 15 years as a licensed educator, with her primary focus on Acceptance & Commitment Training.

She holds a distinguished Master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology from the prestigious Sophia University in Palo Alto, California. This accomplishment underpins her robust expertise in therapy. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of British Columbia, which developed her intrinsic scientific understanding.

Shauna’s drive for academic growth led her to the University of Victoria where she specialized in High School Education, garnering a Professional Post Degree. Holding true to an existential humanistic-oriented approach, Shauna skillfully supervises clinical practices whilst simultaneously fostering an environment for personal and academic growth.

The synergy of her therapy and teaching careers enables Shauna to deftly guide her students and clients toward self-empowerment and positive transformation. Her overarching goal is not only to teach but also to help others navigate their unique paths.

Erica Howes BSW, MSW, RSW, RCC.

Erica is a Registered Social Worker and holds a Masters of Social Work Degree from UBCO. Erica has experience working with a range of populations, and she draws from various therapies and approaches. She has certification training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Trauma Informed Practice. In addition, Erica is currently in training as a Somatic Experiencing practitioner.

Brittnay Nickel B.A, M.A, RCC.

With a decade of experience supporting children, youth, and parents in various settings like foster care, schools, and specialized care facilities, Brittany has honed her expertise. She firmly believes in the power of connection as a conduit for healing, and her top priority is providing a safe, collaborative, and respectful space for you to explore your emotions, tackle challenges, embrace your values, and pursue your goals.

Recognizing that change can be challenging, Brittany is eager to walk beside you on your journey toward a more fulfilling and interconnected life. In her therapy sessions, she skillfully incorporates Emotional-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). 

After engaging with her services, you can expect to experience a greater sense of presence in your daily life, heightened self-awareness and self-compassion, deeper connections with both yourself and others, and a more balanced and rejuvenated state of mind and body.

Sandra Chapman B.A. (Psychology), LL.B., Master of Psychotherapy & Spirituality-Art Therapy (in progress) Intern Counsellor

Sandra Chapman brings a unique blend of psychology and art therapy to her role as an Intern Counsellor. Sandra specializes in assisting people navigate transitions in life and certified to support people who are grieving. She offers a nurturing environment for individuals navigating these life transitions. Through art therapy and talk therapy rooted in existential principles, Sandra assists clients in uncovering insights and forging meaningful paths forward.

With a background as a family law lawyer, Sandra possesses adept skills in conflict resolution and mediation. This experience proved pivotal in guiding clients through emotionally charged legal processes. Combining her legal background with a passion for art, Sandra embarked on a transformative journey. Her exploration of painting’s therapeutic power inspired her to pursue a Master’s in Psychotherapy & Spirituality – Art Therapy at St. Stephen’s College in Alberta, Canada. 

Now aligned with Safe & Sound Therapeutics, Sandra integrates her diverse expertise to aid clients in their quest for mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Through compassionate dialogue and creative expression, she guides individuals toward healing and growth, drawing upon her rich background in psychology, law, and the healing potential of art.

Walk & Talk Therapy

Michele Drescher B.A, M.A (in progress) Intern Counsellor

Michele offers a holistic, integrated approach to counselling. She understands that our emotional well-being is closely tied to our physical health and mental wellness. 

Michele works well with individuals who are diagnosed with ADHD and/or Autism. Approaching each client with their unique needs, Michele aims to support clients in unearthing their true potential to live a full and meaningful life.  

Michele has been a community and competitive coach for the past ten years. This experience is pivotal in shaping Michele’s therapeutic modality, using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. 

She is also a fully certified Walk & Talk Therapist. When you book a Walk & Talk session with  Michele, you will notice your relationship with yourself is enhanced because you will feel more grounded and centred. Regularly touching the earth and nature is scientifically proven to bring greater clarity and clearer thinking to our brains and bodies. This biological connection is at the heart of Michele’s approach. 

If you are a student who sits for long periods, or if you are diagnosed with ADHD or Autism, Walk & Talk Therapy is an excellent approach for you. 

Through the pandemic, Michele recognized the increased need for counselling services with her athletes and decided it was time to complete her degree to be of service to more people. She takes an empathetic approach to her work with others and understands we all start our journey at different stages. 

Outside of the clinic, Michele continues to coach various athletes and loves spending time with her family and two dogs in nature.

Kingsley, Therapy Dog in Training

Kingsley Laird O The Manor is currently in training to assist clients in Safe & Sound Therapeutics. He is now 17 months old and still attends puppy school twice a week. He will be joining the BARK program with UBC in 2024 after he passes his assessment. 

In the meantime, he will be making regular appearances at the office starting January 2024 in order to familiarize himself with the clinic!
